Here’s a little freebie about the beginning of a formal, written code of conduct we call etiquette…it all started (ish) with this guy, Louis IVX.
The gardens of Versailles have some of the world’s most meticulously manicured lawns, millions of flowers, and sculptures fountains located throughout. Can you just imagine how great Louis felt when he first opened his garden? Apparently not TOO great!
The very lords and ladies he invited to view his gardens trampled them. Yep…they did not stick to the paths and walkways. Louis XIV was furious. He instructed his gardener to place signs along the gardens reminding visitors to “Remain on the walkways.”
These little signs, called eti-quettes, instructed everyone on how to behave.
