In the upcoming series of blog posts, I’ll share power words that will help you navigate your way through awkward moments. Today’s word is “unfortunately.” Use the word “unfortunately” when you have to tell someone “no.” Unfortunately is a GREAT way to start the sentence and to drop the bad news bomb: “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to chair the school auction this year.” Unfortunately sounds like you really don’t want to say no but have no choice. The next time you are put on the spot for an answer, try this: “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to answer that today,” or “Unfortunately, I am not in a position to accept…” You get it, right? Unfortunately, that’s all I have for you today.
Stay tuned for more avoiding the awkward power words.
